Render of a GardenTower module in a green room by the window, a fern on its shelfRender

Stacking sheet-steel modules that hang from the ceiling and grow plants in the space student rooms never use.

Brief

Design a product made with standard sheet-metal processes: laser cutting, bending and welding.

Idea

Student rooms have no floor to spare, but the space overhead is empty. GardenTower hangs from the ceiling, so the load goes into the structure, not your desk, and you add modules as your plants grow. Every edge you can touch has a 20 mm radius.

Process

I worked out the bends and the triangular cut pattern in paper and card before going to CAD. Then came a parametric SolidWorks sheet-metal assembly with flat patterns, GA and exploded drawings, and Visualize renders. My group developed the DaLi brand around it.
